The Asterix animated series directed by Alain Chabat will be broadcast on the Netflix platform in 2025, the Asterix publisher announced on Saturday.
Alain Chabat directed “Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra” in 2002, a huge film success with almost 25 million viewers worldwide. This time it will be an adaptation of the album “Le Combat des chefs”, released in 1966. Netflix announced this series in March 2021. The last announced release date was 2024.
“It is in Toulouse, as part of the TAT studio, that the series is currently being produced. We will see you on the screens in the first half of 2025,” said the Albert René publishing house in a press release.
Asterix had great success with the film “Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom” directed by Guillaume Canet. Released in February, it gathered 4.6 million viewers in France, the biggest success of French cinema this year.
In bookstores, Galia is the undisputed star of comics. “L’Iris blanc”, the 40th album released at the end of October, needed less than a month to reach one million copies sold and should undoubtedly end up as the best-selling book in France in 2023. The Albert René edition celebrates the 65th anniversary of Asterix in 2024 , including extended reissues of five albums, including the first, “Asterix the Gaul,” on January 17. In Paris in October, the Atelier des Lumières will present an immersive Asterix exhibition and the Musée Grévin will unveil sculptures of Asterix, Obelix and Dogmatix.
