6 Nations 2024 – 6.6 million viewers ahead of France v Ireland, France 2 audience success

More than 6.6 million viewers tuned in on Friday night to watch France enter the 6 Nations in 2024. A peak of 7.5 million was reached during that encounter against Ireland.

The French were there. Few would miss it this Friday night France – Ireland when opening 6 Nations Tournament. The Blues’ first game since their World Cup quarter-final defeat therefore attracted more than 6.6 million viewers. A peak of 7.5 million was even observed. Audience share of 32.1% for France 2, putting the channel well ahead of the evening audience. Despite the defeat (17-38)supporters remained more loyal than ever to the Blues.

1 million more than the last confrontation

This first match of the tournament ended up bringing together an extra million viewers compared to the last match between France XV and Ireland. 5.6 million viewers watched the Blues game last year. Note that during the last tournament this confrontation between the French and the Irish was broadcast in the middle of the afternoon and not in “prime time”, which may explain the difference.

Fabien GalthiĆ©’s men gathered 16.5 million people on their screens for the World Cup quarter-final against South Africa. The Blues are next scheduled to face Scotland at 3.15pm on Saturday 10th February live on France 2.
